In the studio now: Mary & Aurora Josephson

Mary Josephson, color woodcut on Rives BFK cream

In the spring and summer of 2023 artists Mary Josephson and her daughter Aurora Josephson traveled from Portland Oregon to spend several weeks working in the studio. Over the course of the weeks they each created multiple woodblock prints ranging in size from 4” x 6” to 20” x 16”. Mary focused on the female face culminating in the largest print, a four block color woodcut titled The Beekeeper shown above. Aurora split her time between her own woodcuts, a series titled The Tree Campaign, and working on Gregory Grenons final linoleum cuts which he requested she print for him just prior to his passing. What a pleasure to have them in the studio creating their work! Be sure to see Mary’s show at Traver Gallery in Seattle this November.
